The 100^th anniversary of Mikhail Nikolayevich Mikheyev, Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, will be celebrated in October 2005. This name is widely known not only in Russia, but also abroad. Professor Mikheyev is remembered as a prominent scholar in the field of physical methods for non-destructive testing and an outstanding organizer of Academy science in the Urals, who over 50 years headed the Institute of Physics of Metals – the leading Academy institute in the Urals region. Several generations of specialists working in the field of magnetic techniques for non-destructive testing attended his interesting lectures, wrote course and degree works, candidate and doctoral theses under his supervision. All those who were lucky enough to meet Professor Mikheyev remember him as a brilliant personality who made a great contribution to the science of the USSR!
