Biography : |
Born in the town of Berezniki,
Perm oblast. Lived in Perm when a child and finished high school there. From 1948 to 1953
- student and from 1953 to 1956 -post-graduate at the Chair of Plastic Metal Forming of
the Urals PolytechnicalInstitute (UPI), now Urals State Technical University. From 1956 to
1960 - Headof Laboratory at Pervouralsk Tube Works; from 1960 to 1970 - Head of
Laboratoryand Department at the Urals Iron and Steel Research Institute.
Simultaneously,from 1956 to 1970 lectured at UPI. From 1970 to 1986 - Head of the Chair of
PlasticMetal Forming, UPI. Since 1986 has been working at The Russian Academy of
Scienceand maintaining ties with UPI where he chairs the Council for Doctorate
Confermentand the State Examination Commission in Plastic Metal Forming. Scientific
career:Candidate of Science (Ph. D. ) in 1958; Doctor of Science in 1965; Professor in
1967;Corresponding Member of the Pussian Academy of Science in 1994; Doctor Honoris
Causaof UPI in 1997. Participates in the editorial boards of the journals of
MechanicalScience and Materials Processing Technology, U. K. Has been training
personnelsince post-graduation. As head of chair, lecturer and methodologist,
paricipatedin training about two thousand engineers. As research supervisor, has trained
morethan 50 candidates of science (Ph. D. ), instructed more than 10 Doctors of Science.
Participated in the Expert Council of the Attestation Commission of the USSRCouncil of
Ministers. Major results in industry:- almost all the wire-drawing shops of the former
USSR use the technology of drawingunder hydrodynamic friction, which was developed by V.
L. Kolmogorov and his helpers;- some sorts of finned tubes for nuclear reactors are rolled
on mills completed withequipment developed by V. L. Kolmogorov;- the materials of his
Doctoral thesis were used for the development of the firsthome-produced hot tube rolling
mill with a long mobile mandrel. V. L. Kolmogorov knows english and German, likes to
travel, visited england, Bulgaria, Ireland, Italy, Germany (east), China, Poland and Czeck
Republic, during 30 years, every summer used to paddle down the Urals rivers. |
